AI and the Changing Role of Counseling
What happens to career counseling when clients arrive with AI-generated CVs, cover letters and job recommendations? At Job Point Berlin, I explored how AI is changing the way people navigate the job market and what this means for counselling professionals. Three paradoxes shaped the discussion: AI makes information more accessible, but interpreting it still requires knowledge and context. It can lower barriers to applying for jobs, while also shifting what employers look for in candidates. And as AI-generated advice becomes increasingly convincing, questions of trust and professional judgement take on new significance. These shifts create opportunities to rethink how career counselling works. Professional experience, an understanding of people's circumstances and trusted relationships remain valuable, while new tools open up different ways to support informed decisions and career development. Through my consulting and workshops, I work with organisations to navigate the impact of AI on their services, professional roles and ways of working.
