From Code to Consequence – Exploring AI’s Ethical Responsibilities
At this year’s Bitkom's e. V.AI & Data Summit (AIDAQ25) in Berlin, I had the privilege of hosting the session “From Code to Consequence: Managing the Ethical Responsibilities of AI.” Together with Prof. Dr. Judith Simon (University of Hamburg), Pia Sombetzki (AlgorithmWatch) and Mark Brakel (Future of Life Institute), we tackled a pressing question: Who is truly responsible when AI has real-world impact and what does this responsibility entail? The discussion highlighted diverse perspectives, from the accountability of individual developers and companies to the role of policymakers and regulation. One key insight stood out: responsibility does not begin with the code – it runs through the entire chain of decisions and development.Many thanks to the panelists and participants for their openness and thoughtful contributions.
